How well do you respond to the copy on the copywriter's site? This involves more than simply noticing errors in grammar and syntax. Does the website copy cause an emotional response as you are reading it? Does it make you like the the copywriter? Does his or her words make you want to keep reading and discover more about him or her? Does the copy make you feel like you must hire the writer right away? Does the copy make you feel like you need to leave? Does the copy make you inflamed? These are all really crucial responses and they merit your attention.
Carry out a background research on the copywriter. Look for reviews for the copywriter on unbiased websites and online discussion boards. It's not likely that you will come across any negative reviews on the writer's own site. Conduct a search for the copywriter's name to find out if any reviews or testimonials pop up in places that are not run or that cannot be controlled by the writer. Examine closely these reviews and recommendations. You must also ask the copywriter for several references. Make sure that you follow up and really make contact with those references so that you can get an honest opinion from them.
Be sure you spend some time going through the samples supplied by the writer. Ask for additional samples than are available on the writer's web site. This is particularly vital if the copywriter claims he or she is an expert in a particular field. If the writing feels like a rewritten Wikipedia article, you need to find someone else.
